Housing Markets That Are Still Thriving: Idaho Falls and Eastern Idaho Are Doing Great!
February 26, 2008
MSN Money Magazine recently released a housing market study that details appreciation rates in 291 metropolitan areas across the United States. The study ranks the cities and details the appreciation rates for the 1st quarter of 2007, the year 2007, and then the total appreciation realized over the past 5 years for each of the ranked cities.
Idaho Falls ranks #9 in this study!!
This is just another indication taht our local economy is growing substantially, but it is not out of control like some areas were that are upside down on their market now.
The best-performing housing market in the country during the third quarter was picturesque Wenatchee, a city of more than 35,000 that is the seat of Chelan County, Wash. Prices in the Wenatchee metro area increased by 15.7 percent year over year, according to RealtyTrac.
Home prices also jumped more than 10 percent in second home markets in Utah, Idaho, and Colorado.
"They're doing so well because they're getting the run-off from California, Nevada, and Arizona," says Jeannine Cataldi, senior economist for Global Insight. "When prices got so high [in those states], people said, 'there must be places that are more affordable.’”
